Social Services

Social services are a crucial part of the rehabilitation team. The social worker's function is to assist the patient and family in solving social, emotional, and financial adjustment problems. The patient and members of his or her family are interviewed to obtain pertinent personal and family information. Contact is maintained with family members throughout the patient's stay. Individual counseling is provided for the patient and family to help them understand the illness or disability and plan realistically for the future. The social worker participates as a co-therapist with members of the psychology staff in ongoing group therapy sessions.
