More than fifty years ago, a group of caring women saw the need for volunteer services within the UAB Hospital. They organized in 1949 the Auxiliary which provided services and fund raising. These civic-minded women have set the pattern and ideals that continue today.
The Auxillary provides gifts to the Hospital to purchase equipment, affordable infant car seats, craft supplies for the Pediatric Playroom and help for needy patients. In addition the profits from the shops are used to furnish and maintain the Auxiliary Lodge, a facility for those who would like to be close to a family member hospitalized at UAB Hospital, but whose financial situation doesn't allow for the expenses of a hotel in Birmingham.
UAB Hospital provides many different opportunities and programs. We offer the Adult Volunteer Program, College Volunteer Program, and the Teen Volunteer Program. We also have many special projects that are ongoing throughout the year.
