New Neurology Faculty

UAB Synopsis, Vol. 25, No. 32, December 11, 2006

Ray L. Watts, MD, chair of UAB’s Department of Neurology and Director of Clinical Research in the Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorder Research Program announces the following new faculty appointments:

Jennifer L. DeWolfe, DO, is assistant professor of neurology. Her research interests include epilepsy, epilepsy neuroimaging and surgery, and sleep medicine. She has a subspecialty practice at The Kirklin Clinic® and the Sleep/Wake Disorders Center.

Harrison C. Walker, MD, is instructor and Schumann fellow of neurology in the Division of Movement Disorders and Deep Brain Stimulation Program. He completed his neurology residency at UAB from 2003 to 2006.

Agnieszka Anna Ardelt, MD, PhD, is a critical care and vascular neurologist working with the UAB Stroke Center. Dr. Ardelt’s basic research is on cerebrovascular remodeling in ischemic stroke. Her clinical interests focus on institution of evidence-based management paradigms for patients with cerebrovascular disease and brain injury.

Talene A. Yacoubian, MD, PhD, is an instructor/fellow of neurology in the Division of Movement Disorders and Center for Neurodegeneration and Experimental Therapeutics. Her research focuses on identifying genes protective against neurodegeneration in Parkinson’s disease.

Yuqing Li, PhD, will be working with the Parkinson Disease and Movement Disorders Research Program. Dr. Li’s research has focused on genetic analysis of neural development and plasticity, animal models of neurodevelopmental disorders, and dystonia.

Angela M. Young, MD, is assistant professor in general neurology and neuromuscular disorders. Her clinical focus is on Huntington’s disease pathophysiology and prevention of comorbidities, and her research targets amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, autoimmune neuropathies, and myasthenia gravis.

Martina Bebin, MD, MPA, associate professor of neurology, has a secondary appointment with the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Child Neurology. She is a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Health Policy fellow for 2005 to 2006. Dr. Bebin’s research interests include pediatric clinical drug development for epilepsy and outcomes research of epilepsy patients. Her clinical interest focuses on treatment of epilepsy in children.

David A. Brenner, MD, is assistant professor at UAB’s Comprehensive Stroke Center. His research centers on the understanding and prevention of stroke. He will serve on the inpatient vascular service and see patients at TKC.

John F. Rothrock, MD, is professor and vice chair of the Department of Neurology. He is a national expert in the areas of headache and stroke and is involved in numerous research studies examining new therapies for both conditions. He will direct a new UAB program specializing in headache and assist in the continued development of the UAB stroke program. He is editor-in-chief of Headache, the journal of the American Headache Society.
