A New Hope
Fifteen percent of couples are affected by infertility, which
is the inability to conceive after one year of unprotected
intercourse. However, infertility treatment is a rapidly
changing field, and the combination of proven techniques
and recent innovations has given many couples new hope.
Through a cooperative effort, the Division of Urology and
the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the
University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) have created
a fertility clinic designed to deliver comprehensive care
for couples facing fertility problems.
It is the only center in Alabama, Mississippi, and northern
Florida where a fellowship-trained urologist and reproductive
endocrinologists work together to provide the least
invasive, most cost-effective care. The clinic is responsible
for many firsts in infertility treatment - including the first
births from in vitro fertilization, gamete intrafallopian
transfer, egg donation, and intracytoplasmic sperm injection
in Alabama.
As part of the world-renowned UAB Health System,
fertility clinic physicians can rely on innovative research,
advanced technology, and more than 700 specialists in
over 30 fields of medicine to provide unparalleled compre-hensive
care.
The clinic is located in the convenient environment of
The Kirklin Clinic at UAB, which brings together physicians,
labs and testing facilities, and a pharmacy under
one roof.
