In addition to metered spaces on the street, UAB Hospital offers valet parking and convenient parking decks.
The 4th Avenue Deck is a new, state-of-the-art parking facility located on 4th Avenue South and 18th Street. The deck is owned and operated by the Educational Foundation and will provide convenient parking for the patients and visitors coming to University Hospital.
The deck features walk-up payment machines and parking Ambassadors dedicated to assisting the public. The daily maximum rate will be $8.00. Valet Parking will be available, at an additional charge, on the 2nd level of the 4th Avenue deck.
Operating hours are 5:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Monday-Friday. The cost of this service is $5, paid in advance. An attendant is on duty to provide shuttle service until 9:55 p.m. Monday through Thursday and until 7:45 p.m. on Friday. Cars need to be claimed by 7:45 p.m. on Friday.
For those who need to access other University Hospital buildings, public parking will continue to be available in the 6th Avenue (Deck #4) and University Boulevard (Deck #3) parking decks. The daily maximum rate for both of these decks is $8.00.
Valet parking will no longer be available at the drive-in entrance of the Spain-Wallace Building located on 19th Street South between 6th and 7th Avenue South.
On Friday evenings, weekends and holidays, remaining vehicles in valet parking will be relocated to the bottom of Deck #4. Those who have parked their vehicles with the Hospital Valet Parking service operating on the 2nd level of the 4th Avenue Deck will be able to retrieve the keys to their vehicles after-hours, on weekends and holidays by going to the Security station at the 18th Street entrance of the University Emergency Department (UED). The recommended route to the UED Security station is to enter the UED through the doors behind and to the right of the Information Desk located on the 1st Floor.
Upon showing their Valet receipt to the UED Security Officer, vehicle owners will be issued the keys to their Valet-parked vehicle. They would then proceed to the 2nd floor Sky Lobby of the 4th Avenue Deck, and, using the ticket they received upon entering the deck, pay any required deck rate charges at one of the pay stations. Upon receipt of payment, the pay station will return their ticket to them. They would then locate their vehicle which will be parked on the eastern bay of the 2nd floor of the deck. They must use the ticket they received back from the pay station in order to exit the deck.
The Valet Service in the 4th Avenue Deck is operated by ParkRite, Inc. It is staffed Monday – Thursday, 5:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m., and Fridays, 5:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. The telephone number is 996-2723, and voice mail instructions are on this line after-hours for vehicle retrieval. Any after-hours issues related to Valet-parked vehicles in the 4th Avenue Deck should be addressed to ParkRite management staff, who can be contacted via their cellular phones by calling UAB Paging at 934-3411.
Parking is also available in Decks #3, and #4. Cars may be parked any time at the rate of $1 for the first half hour and 50 cents for each additional half hour to a maximum of $8 per day. The 6th Avenue deck (Deck #4) is adjacent to the hospital. A covered crosswalk connects this deck to the hospital entrance. The University Boulevard deck (Deck #3) is located several blocks away on 8th Ave. and 19th St.
