Commonly Asked Questions:
Q: Who will mail my insurance claim? When?
A: One way we help our patients is by filing your insurance claim. This means the hospital mails your hospital bill and insurance forms to your insurance company. This should be done 4 days after you are sent home. You will need to make sure your insurance company gets the claim and pays their part of it. You are responsible for making sure your bill is paid.
Q: When will I get a bill from the hospital?
A: You should be sent a statement 4 days after you leave the hospital. This shows how much your hospital bill is and that your insurance claim has been filed. Later, you will be sent a bill for any amount you may owe after your insurance pays their part.
Q: Why are there charges for medicine I am taking home on my bill?
A: If you have prescriptions for medicine to be taken once you get home and they are filled by UAB Pharmacy, the cost is added to your hospital bill. Medicines to be taken at home are not paid for by your insurance.
Q: I was sent two different bills. Why?
A: If you are seen at The Kirklin Clinic or a UAB Outreach Clinic, you will be sent two different bills. The bill for lab work will be sent by UAB Hospital. Any other charges will be sent on a different bill.
Q: Where should I mail my payment?
