Alabama has an adult obesity rate of 28.7 percent, ranking it the 2nd heaviest state in the nation. The state also ranks 5th in the nation for diabetes and ranks 3rd for hypertension. In an effort to change these statistics and help people lose weight, Medical West is teaming up with the Alabama Hospital Association, the Alabama Department of Public Health, and Barber Dairies, to begin a ten-week weight loss program called “Scale Back Alabama.”
Teams of four members will compete to lose ten pounds each. The teams who complete the task will be put in a drawing to win $1,000 per person, compliments of Barber Dairies.
