Admission and Evaluation as an Inpatient

Once you are admitted, your evaluatation begins with tests of your medical, social, physical and mental condition. The complete process takes between 48 and 72 hours. We also work with you to identify your rehabilitation goals. Your rehabilitation program is established based on the evaluation.

 

A Typical Day

You meet with several specialists daily, including your rehabilitation physician. This physician also meets with the rehabilitation team on a weekly basis to monitor your progress.

A typical day consists of the following schedule:

What to Bring:
  • 3-5 sets of comfortable, loose fitting clothes
  • personal toiletry items
  • rubber sole shoes (preferably tennis shoes)
  • radios, flowers and pictures are also encouraged
Rooms

All of our rooms are private rooms.

A Learning Experience for the Family
Families are encouraged to participate in the rehabiltation program as much as possible. We encourage the primary caregiver and other family members to attend therapy sessions when possible.
Cafeteria
Dining is available in the first floor cafeteria Monday -Friday for breakfast and lunch. There are also many other dining options avilable within walking distance.
Parking
Parking is available in the lot in front of the building for a fee. there is also metered parking available in the surrounding blocks. The hospital parking deck on 4th Avenue South is also only two blocks from the building. Parking is more difficult during the middle of the day from 10 am-3 pm.
Patient Laundry
Washers, dryers and laundry supplies are avialable on each floor. We encourage families to do the patient's laundry if it is possible to avoid items being mixed up or misplaced. Please label all clothing and personal items.
Housing/Accomodations
Overnight stays with a patient are allowed if approved by the physician. Several local places offer discounted rates for lodging, some with shuttle service to and from the hospital. For additonal information please call (205)934-3360.
Discharge Planning
Prior to leaving the facility, you will receive information relevant to readjusting to life in the community, including resources and reccomendations for follow-up care.
Outpatient Programs
Many rehabilitation programs are offered on an outpatient basis, including aquatic therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy and speech therapy.
