Support services are administered through The Alzheimer's Family Program.Many patients with Alzheimer's Disease have family members who care for them, either at home or in nursing homes. Families often need information, support and guidance to help them with the many challenges of caregiving.
The Alzheimer's Family Program offers assistance to families facing AD in a number of ways.
- Alzheimer's Support Groups where families meet to share their caregiving experiences and to learn about issues related to AD.
- Monthly Newsletter provides practical tips, updates, and encouragement for caregivers and health care Professionals concerned with AD.
- Telephone counseling, information and referral to community services, in the Birmingham area.
- Advocacy for improved services and legislation for AD patients and their families in the State of Alabama.
- Speaker's Bureau offers free public talks and educational workshops to community groups. In addition, it offers free talks to health care professionals and sponsors an annual Continuing Educational Conference each spring.
- Callers may request information packets and reference material on AD or obtain information about any of the services available through the Alzheimer's Disease Center, including the Memory Disorder Clinic, The Alzheimer's Family Program, Brain Resource Program, or the Speakers Bureau.
