Research projects on AD conducted at UAB include:
Clinical trials to develop new treatments for AD patients.
  • Study of the metabolism of abnormal proteins which accumulate in the brains of AD patients.
  • Genetic studies of AD in families.
  • Assessment of caregiver stress and coping in African-American and White families of AD patients.
  • Brain Resource Program for the collection of tissue for research purposes.

Benefits from participation in these on-going research programs include:

  • MEDICATION - Several new drugs are being tested and developed for the treatment of memory loss. The ADC offers research treatment to patients who qualify.
  • INFORMATION -The ADC provides information about memory loss.
  • RECOMMENDATIONS- The ADC makes recommendations on how to deal with memory loss and it's effects on patients and their families.
  • MEDICAL FOLLOW-UP- Patients who are accepted into one of the ADC's many drug treatment studies may receive free medical follow-up for their memory problems for study visit.
