UAB’s radiation oncologists offer patients the latest radiosurgery treatments, which have proven to be successful against a number of cancers while producing fewer side effects. These latest radiation therapies – including the new Tomotherapy system – provide precise, three-dimensional images to identify and directly attack tumors while avoiding normal surrounding tissue. UAB was one of the first 10 institutions in the world with this system.
The radiation oncology specialists at UAB also combine existing advanced treatment techniques with other new cancer therapeutic approaches to seek the best outcomes possible for each patient.
UAB is also one of the few institutions in the country with a radiation oncology research component and conducts clinical trials to test and improve treatments for the future.
