Intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT)

Intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) is an advanced mode of high-precision radiation therapy. The radiation dose’s intensity is modulated and designed to conform to the three-dimensional shape of a tumor. IMRT focuses higher doses to the tumor, while minimizing radiation exposure to surrounding cells. Tomotherapy is a type of IMRT. UAB also utilizes a type of high precision IMRT technology for SBRT treatments on tumors of the liver and lung that may move during treatment.
