The goals of the
Diabetes Research and Training Center are to provide a distinctive teaching center for the detection and treatment of diabetes; to develop comprehensive educational programs for people with diabetes and their families; to recruit outstanding research scientists in the field of diabetes and provide laboratories and equipment for their research; and to fund a sustaining program to provide money for ongoing research as well as diagnostic and education programs.
In addition to providing patients with a clinical staff of nurses specially trained in the treatment of diabetes, the Center attracts health professionals and researchers from around the world. The Center also offers patient educational services to promote self-motivation, coping strategies, and an understanding of compliance issues.
The center also has treatment programs for other endocrine disorders, such as osteoporosis, growth and fertility problems, thyroid disease, and hypoglycemia.
