Sports Medicine

With full access to the UAB Medical Center's facilities, physicians and research, UAB Sports Medicine can treat and rehabilitate persons who suffer from sports-related injuries with a degree of skill and professionalism not offered at smaller "sports medicine" clinics.
UAB Sports Medicine is staffed with orthopaedic surgeons, registered physical therapist and trainers certified by the National Athletic Trainer's Association (NATA). This team is uniquely qualified to evaluate, treat and rehabilitate injuries to athletes of all ages, and all abilities.

In the fall of 1991, UAB Sports Medicine moved to it's new facility on the fourth floor of The Childrens Hospital of Alabama Ambulatory Care Center and its size increased by almost 40 percent. Athletes will appreciate the larger weight room, separate therapy room and new contrast whirlpool.

The Gait Analysis Center (also located on the same floor) enables UAB Sports Medicine to offer gait and motion analysis. And, UAB Sports Medicine now has the ability to serve more patients...more quickly.
The Rehabilitation Department has a full range of state-of-the-art equipment that aids the specialists in returning athletes to activity as quickly and healthily as possible. It also accepts outside physician referrals.

UAB Sports Medicine offers ongoing education and support programs including:
  • workshops and seminars on injury prevention
  • rehabilitation
  • emergency treatment
  • athletic training
  • experts who are available to address community groups
  • physical exams to Alabama high school students
