Visitation for the Trauma-Burn Intensive Care Unit
North Pavilion ICU 9th Floor
UAB University Hospital staff believes that patient visitation supports the patient’s physical, spiritual, and emotional needs. We also believe that the frequency and number of visitors at the patient’s bedside at any given time should take into account the safety and well being of the patients. Visiting hours are strictly enforced due to the nature of extensive care provided, unless otherwise approved by the charge nurse.
You are requested to support the following guidelines: ·
- Only three (3) family members at the bedside at a time.
- To protect the privacy of each patient, please DO NOT enter the unit at scheduled visiting times until a TBICU staff member allows visitors inside.
- At any other time, please use the phone located outside of the unit to call inside and speak with a staff member.
- DO NOT enter the unit unless accompanied by a staff member. ·
- Children under the age of 12 years may not visit. Please do not leave children unattended at any time while in the hospital. ·
- Visitors are not allowed to wait in the hallways inside the TBICU during visiting hours due to the Fire and Safety Codes.
- Additional visitors must wait outside the TBICU. ·
- Visiting times may be delayed for unit activities, at which time you will be notified by a member of the TBICU staff as to the reason and the next expected visiting time. ·
- Cellular phones are not to be turned on and/or used in patient care areas as they do cause interference with monitoring equipment. ·
- Please do not visit if you are sick.
You may request the unit phone number from your bedside nurse. After agreeing on a “CODE NAME”, we request that you designate ONE family member to call the unit. We will not give out information over the phone without a “CODE WORD”. Remember, the nurse’s primary concern is the direct care of your family member, the patient.
Chaplains, Nurse Counselors, Patient Representatives and Medical Social Workers are available upon request. If we can be of any assistance, please let us know and feel free to ask questions.
Visitors may wait in the ICU Waiting Room located on the 1st floor in Quarterback Tower.
