Symptoms of Urinary Incontinence
- leakage of urine that prevents activities
- leakage of urine that began or continued after surgery
- leakage of urine that causes embarrassment
- frequent bladder infections
- inability to urinate
- bladder pain and/or pain with urination
- progressive weakness of the urinary stream
- needing to rush to the restroom and/or losing urine if you do not get to restroom in time
- abnormal urination or changes in urination related to a nervous system abnormality such as stroke, spinal cord injury, multiple sclerosis.
Symptoms of Fecal Incontinence
- inability to hold a bowel movement or get to the restroom in time
- unexpected leakage of feces or passing of gas from the rectum
Symptoms of Pelvic/Organ Prolapse
Some women have no symptoms or discomfort and may not even realize they have a prolapse. Symptoms are often related to the structure or organ that has prolapsed:
- bladder prolapse can cause urinary incontinence or feelings of urgency or frequent voiding
- bowel or rectal prolapse can result in difficult bowel movements or constipation.
- uterine prolapse may produce a bulging sensation in the pelvic area, and if the prolapse is severe, the uterus can bulge out of the vagina.
- vague symptoms such as a heavy sensation in the vagina, lower back pain, pelvic pain or pressure, or difficulty or pain with intercourse.
