Physicians in this clinic manage complicated pregnancies and perform deliveries in close proximity to the UAB Hospital's Regional Newborn Intensive Care Unit (RNICU). The clinic is equipped to manage potential complications such as:

  • mothers who have diabetes, high blood pressure, Rh problems, or heart, lung, kidney, and vascular diseases

  • mothers at risk for premature delivery

  • mothers with prior pregnancy complications, twins or pregnancy loss.

  • vaginal deliveries for women who have had caesarean sections developmental defects, such as spina bifida
The clinic includes:

A team of obstetric specialists providing 24 hour personal care. UAB's team includes Birmingham's only board-certified maternal and fetal medicine specialists. Two hold certifications in genetics. The team also includes a personal labor nurse and three anesthesia specialists for cesarean delivery and epidural care.

Additional Services:

UAB offers the latest ultrasound technology, you can get a detailed four-dimensional picture or live video of your baby between 14-20 weeks of pregnancy. You also get a picture or video recorded on your VHS tape or CD-ROM.
