During your visit to Birmingham we want you, as well as your family, to feel as comfortable as possible. Following you will find a list of the complementary services that we offer and which are available to all our international patients.
Patient Representation
If you have any questions about the policies and procedures of the Hospital or if anything worries your during your visit to UAB do not hesitate to talk about the matter with your Coordinator. He or she will do everything possible to resolve any problems which you may have.
Translation Services
The team of International Medical Services is formed by professional interpreters familiar with medical terminology. A member of our team can accompany you to your appointment and translate whenever it is necessary as long as you are in the UAB Medical Center.
Financial Information Services
Before your admission you will receive an estimate of all the expenses which you will incur for the procedures and visits to the clinic and the hospital. After you are released from the Medical Center of UAB, we will give you a list of all charges from the clinic and the hospital in a single statement. The statement will reach you by mail or by fax approximately 45 days after you are dismissed from the hospital.
Local Transportation
We offer transportation service (airport-hotel) to the patient upon arrival and departure from Birmingham. For patients who will be in the city for a limited time for treatment we offer transportation to shopping once a week, on Fridays or Saturdays. We appreciate a call in advance to coordinate the schedules. Transportation for family members who arrive independently of the patient will be the responsibility of each individual.
For daily transportation to and from the hotel to the hospital, we recommend the use of transport services of your hotel. In case hotel service is not available, we will offer transportation to and from the Medical Center and hotels in the local area for the patient, as necessary for his/her treatment.
Pastoral Services
The Pastoral Services team offers assistance to patients and family members during their visit to the Medical Center of UAB. Pastoral Services for Catholic, Jewish, Protestant, and Islamic faiths are part of the Religious Services team.
Additional Services
To make your visit more pleasant, we offer numerous complementary services. Among these services are: private e-mail which can be used while you are in the Medical Center, access to the internet, reception of faxes, advice and reservations for travel, confirmation of airline tickets and help in car rental.
