Ninth Annual Sporting Clays Classic- April 20, 2007

The UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center will host its Ninth Annual Sporting Clays Classic on Friday, April 20, 2007, at Talladega County's Selwood Farm in Alpine. Last year's event raised $47,535, with all funds devoted entirely to breast cancer research. Founding sponsors and hosts for the fundraiser are B.L. Harbert International, Russo Corporation and Sherman Industries, Inc.

The day-long event is divided into morning and afternoon rounds, with each round having winners announced in two classes: champions and sportsman. Individual prizes will be awarded throughout the day. Breakfast and a catfish lunch will be provided.

Members of the fundraiser’s organizing committee include: Jackie Stevenson and Will Hereford with B.L. Harbert, Claude Wood and Charles Hackett with Sherman Industries, Inc., Lance Kitchens with Russo Corporation, Alan Register and Nic Balanis with Compass Bank, Camper O'Neal with Merrill Lynch, Frank Crockard with General Machinery and Rachel Waters with the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Over the past eight years, the Sporting Clays Classic has raised nearly $375,000 for breast cancer research at the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center. The Center is the only such institution in a five-state area to be designated as “comprehensive” by the National Cancer Institute. The ever-growing event has become a tradition for community members wanting to play a role in the fight against the disease.
