High-Risk Obstetrics Services Available at The Kirklin Clinic® at Acton Road

Women at greatest risk for complications in their pregnancies can receive comprehensive, high-risk obstetrics care at The Kirklin Clinic® at Acton Road, conveniently located just off I-459. This UAB clinic, south of town, offers specialized management of complicated pregnancies, as well as a range of diagnostic techniques, preconception counseling and reproductive endocrinology for patients experiencing infertility.

High-risk obstetricians (maternal-fetal medicine specialists) provide individualized care to patients with complex pregnancies, including:

  • women with diabetes, high blood pressure, or heart, lung, kidney or vascular disease
  • women at risk for premature delivery
  • women pregnant with twins or multiples
  • women with prior pregnancy complications or pregnancy loss
In addition to their initial training in obstetrics and gynecology, UAB’s high-risk obstetricians complete three years of specialized training in high-risk pregnancy care and are nationally recognized experts in maternal-fetal medicine.
