Five UAB Specialty Programs in U.S. News Top 25

U.S. News & World Report’s annual ranking of America’s best hospitals placed 7 of UAB Hospital’s specialty programs among the top 50 in the country — 5 among the top 25. The magazine evaluated 16 programs at 5189 hospitals and ranked institutions through measurements gathered from 3 major elements: reputation, mortality data, and quality-of-care measures. UAB Hospital specialities ranked: rheumatology 6th, heart and heart surgery 14th, gynecology 16th, nephrology 17th, oncology 23rd, orthopaedics 47th, and respiratory diseases 48th.

U.S. News Best Graduate Schools

U.S. News & World Report gave the UAB School of Medicine (SOM) its best-ever ranking in the research category — a tie for 22nd place with Mayo Clinic Medical School and Case Western Reserve University. The magazine also rated 2 of the SOM’s programs among the top 10, with 5 more in the top 30: AIDS 5th, women’s health 8th, geriatrics 14th, internal medicine 17th, pediatrics 20th, rural medicine 20th, and primary care 28th.

215 UAB Physicians listed by “Best Doctors in America”

Best Doctors in America,” the leading independent, knowledge-based medical referral service, listed 215 UAB physicians in its 2006 rankings. Only 4% of board certified physicians in the United States made the list.
