The UAB Faculty Senate will be conducting the review of the UAB President and Provost beginning at the end of August. Evaluations must be completed by the date indicated in the communication to each faculty member. The review is a charge to the Senate in the UAB Faculty Senate Constitution and Bylaws, a necessary component of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools accreditation process. It provides important information for these administrators and for the faculty they serve.
The UAB faculty is an integral element in this review process and plays a significant role in determining current and future initiatives at UAB.
UAB has used the Individual Development and Educational Assessment (IDEA) Center at Kansas State University assessment tool to provide feedback to the UAB deans, chairs, president, and provost since 2003. This tool has been an effective means for faculty to communicate their opinions about the direction of the university and the effectiveness of the university’s leadership.
It is anticipated UAB faculty will receive an email message from the Chair of the Faculty describing the process for the review and when to expect the direct email message from the IDEA near the end of August, with reminders during the first 2 weeks of September.
Please take a few minutes to provide your thoughtful and sincere assessment of the president and provost when you receive this link to the IDEA assessment form. All information is confidential.
Summary tables of the results of the president’s evaluation will be shared with the chancellor and summary tables of the provost’s evaluation will be shared with the president. Tabular data will subsequently be available upon request to the evaluating faculty in paper form at the Faculty Senate office.
Any comments for President Garrison will be submitted only to the president. Any comments made on the provost’s evaluation will be submitted only to the Provost.
The faculty is central to the progress of UAB, and its feedback is critical in ensuring UAB’s continued success and position at the forefronts of medicine, research, and education.
