UAB Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Chair Amie B. Jackson, MD, announces the appointment of James M. Lance, Jr., DO, MPH, as medical director of The Workplace. Dr. Lance came to UAB in 2003 as director of occupational medicine services.
Graduating with honors and the recipient of a 4-year Dillard-Elliot Scholarship, Dr. Lance completed his BS degree at Presbyterian College in Clinton, South Carolina, and his DO degree at Nova Southeastern University's College of Osteopathic Medicine, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where he also was recognized for scholastic achievement.
After completing a family medicine residency at University Hospital, Dr. Lance was in practice in Georgia, returning to UAB for a MPH degree, which he was awarded with honors.
He subsequently served an occupational and environmental medicine residency in UAB's Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, where he served as chief resident, before joining the UAB faculty. He is certified by the American Board of Family Practice and the American Board of Preventive Medicine. Dr. Lance's clinical interests center on work-injury management.
