George Barber Lectureship Is June 2

Dr. Byron BaileyThe eleventh annual George W. Barber, Jr., Foundation Lectureship will be presented by Byron Bailey, MD, chair emeritus of the University of Texas Medical Branch's Department of Otolaryngology, at 5 pm on June 2 in West Pavilion Conference room E. His topic is "Resident Work Hours: Past, Present, and Future Issues."

Dr. Bailey will also present at the Department of Otolaryngology 2005 Residents' Research Day on June 3 at the Alys Stephens Center. His topic will be "Vertical Partial Laryngectomy and Laryngoplasty."

Dr. Bailey has been practicing medicine since 1959. In the 1970s, he was a key player in formation of the communicative disorders section of the National Institutes of Health. An advocate of those who live with hearing loss, he has made significant national and international contributions to the field of otolaryngology, including humanitarian missions to Cuba and Vietnam, where he donated equipment and taught local otolaryngologists the latest treatments and techniques. In 2003, he was honored with the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery's Humanitarian Efforts Award for his personal mission work.
