University Hospital Enjoys 100% Match

2005 National Residency Matching Program

University Hospital filled 100% of available resident positions this year through the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP). Results of the 2005 NRMP also reveal that, of the 143 matched positions, 85 (60%) were filled by men and 58 (40%) by women. Eight residents are African American, two are Hispanic, and one is Native American.

One hundred and eleven (78%) matched applicants were ranked in the top 50 choices (range 1-191).

Forty-seven students (33%) are from the School of Medicine at UAB, and nine attended the Medical College of Georgia. Eight come from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans. Six are arriving from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, five each come from East Tennessee State University and Louisiana State University School of Medicine in Shreveport, and four each come from the University of Michigan Medical School, the University of South Alabama College of Medicine, and the University of Texas Medical School at San Antonio. Three students each attended Baylor College of Medicine, Mercer University School of Medicine, University of Mississippi School of Medicine, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine, and University of Texas Medical School at Houston.

Others come from Emory, Case Western Reserve, Indiana University, Marshall University, Morehouse, St. Louis University, Tulane, Wayne State, the universities of Arkansas, Arizona, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Louisville, Missouri-Columbia, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rochester, South Florida, Virginia, and Wake Forest.

Six students represent non-U.S. medical schools in Pakistan, India, and Bolivia.
