UAB Synopsis, Vol. 24, No. 21, June 6, 2005
Lincoln L. Berland, MD, professor and vice chair for development in UAB's Department of Radiology, was named president of The Society of Computed Body Tomography and Magnetic Resonance (SCBT/MR) at the society's 28th annual course. SCBT/MR was formed in 1977 by academic and research pioneers, including the UAB Department of Radiology's former chair, Robert J. Stanley, MD. The society's primary goal is educating practicing radiologists in the use of body CT and body MR. The society's mission is improving patient care through appropriate use of CT and MR and fostering innovative research and educational programs.
Dr. Berland was course director of the 28th annual session, which attracted more than 500 attendees. The 100-plus elected society fellows comprise the faculty for its courses. In addition to its academic mission, the society has recently worked in association with other organizations, such as the American College of Radiology, to develop guidelines for performing PET/CT and abdominal and pelvic CT and to address other professional and technical challenges arising from the rapid evolution of imaging technology.
