Senior Vice President and Dean of the School of Medicine Robert R. Rich, MD, announces the appointment of Robert P. Kimberly, MD, as senior associate dean for research.
Dr. Kimberly replaces Richard Marchase, PhD, who has decided to focus solely on his responsibilities as UAB vice president for research. Dr. Kimberly is professor and director of the Division of Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology and the university-wide Arthritis and Musculoskeletal Center. Dr. Kimberly also played an important role as cochair for developing the Research Strategic Plan for the School of Medicine.
As senior associate dean for research, Dr. Kimberly is responsible for implementing the plan; facilitating use of research space and other research resources; advising in recruitment of select department chairs and center directors; establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships with investigators in other UAB schools; and interfacing with central administration on research matters that affect the School of Medicine.
