Pamboukian Named Medical Director Mechanical Circulatory Support

Drl PamboukianDirector of the Division of Cardiovascualr Disease Robert C. Bourge, MD, announces the appointment of Salpy V. Pamboukian, MD, as medical director of the UAB Mechanical Circulatory Support Device Program. “Dr. Pamboukian will be working with her colleagues in Cardiovascular Disease and Cardiovascular Surgery to oversee the clinical program and coordinate clinical research,” Dr. Bourge says.

Dr. Pamboukian completed her MD degree, with honors, at the University of Toronto, Canada, where she also completed an internal medicine residency. She received a cardiology fellowship at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, followed by cardiac transplantation and advanced heart failure fellowships at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago.

Prior to joining UAB, Dr. Pamboukian served as assistant professor of medicine at Rush Medical College, as attending cardiologist at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center’s heart failure and cardiac transplant program, and as medical director of heart failure and transplantation at Cook County Hospital in Chicago.

Dr. Pamboukian is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in internal medicine with a subspecialty in cardiology. She is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine with a subspecialty in cardiovascular medicine. Dr. Pamboukian also is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology, and qualified by United Network of Organ Sharing as a heart transplant cardiologist.

“During her first 2 years on our faculty, Dr. Pamboukian obtained her MSPH degree and cultivated an interest in clinical care and outcomes research in patients with mechanical circulatory support devices [ventricular assist devices, percutaneous and implanted],” Dr. Bourge says.
