Read the Institute of Medicine’s (IOM) report, The Future of Drug Safety: Promoting and Protecting the Health of the Public. In response to public concern about risks posed by approved drugs, the US FDA asked the IOM to convene a committee to assess the US drug safety system and make recommendations to improve risk assessment, surveillance, and the safe use of drugs. The IOM report highlights concerns and offers 25 recommendations for improving post-market drug surveillance and intervention.
