Hoesley to Speak at SOM Commencement Ceremony

Dr. HoesleyUAB Department of Medicine Clerkship Director Craig J. Hoesley, MD, associate professor of medicine, will be the speaker at the UAB School of Medicine Commencement Ceremony (formerly the Honors Convocation), to be held at 1 pm in the Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Center Concert Hall on Sunday, May 20. A reception sponsored by the Dean’s Office and Medical Student Services will follow in the East Ballroom. Schoolwide awards are presented at this ceremony, and the 155 graduating seniors will individually receive doctorate hoods indicating their inception into the field of medicine.

The school’s Huntsville campus will hold its awards banquet at The Ledges on May 17. Tuscaloosa’s campus will hold its awards banquet May 18 at Indian Hills Country Club.

Dr. Hoesley, an infectious disease specialist, received his MD degree from the University of South Florida College of Medicine in Tampa. He completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at UAB, where he was chief medical resident.

He also completed a fellowship in infectious diseases before joining the faculty in 1998. Dr. Hoesley has been honored repeatedly for his teaching abilities. In 2002 he was named Clinical Professor of the Year and received the Tinsley Harrison Award for Teaching Excellence. He received the 2001 C. Glenn Cobbs and Edwin A. Rutsky Award for Clinical Excellence.
