Heart Answers Online

UAB Launches Heart Answers Site

Uabheartanswers.org, a new online resource for individuals who want to learn more about how to manage and prevent heart disease, launched in February, just in time for Heart Month.

Uabheartanswers.org is an online community providing articles, videos and podcasts on a wide range of heart-related topics, such as preventing heart disease, coping with life after a cardiac event and how heart disease differs in women and men. Users may register and select the topics that interest them to receive a monthly Heart Answers e-Newsletter delivered to their e-mail inbox. They will also receive e-blasts with breaking news about their specific heart disease topics of interest.

"Education regarding one's heath related problems can play a major role in prevention, therapy, and recovery from heart and vascular disease," says UAB Cardiologist Robert Bourge, M.D. "We hope that this site will aide our patients by providing an easy-to-use source of both general and disease-specific health related information."

The site is structured for people who are concerned about their risk for heart disease or want to prevent it, as well as people who have been diagnosed with heart disease or have loved ones with heart disease. Users can also take a heart quiz to measure the health of their heart, and access UAB's extensive online Heart Health Library.

"Out new Heart Answers site will provide information both on a reference basis, and via electronically delivered general or disease specific information, customizable by the participant," Bourge says. "In addition, the site will provide information in text and multimedia formats, including links to videos, and information that can be downloaded and viewed at one's convenience. This is truly a multidimensional educational site which we believe will help our patients, and the people of our state."

Information on Heart Answers is constantly updated, and users who sign up for the e-Newsletter will be the first to know when new information is available.
