Department of Physician Services

The Department of Physician Services and Patient Referral at the UAB Health System joins Physician Relations, MIST (Medical Information Service via Telephone) and HealthFinder to provide an extensive range of services for physicians and patients.

Physician Relations

Physician Relations facilitates activities of referring physicians and the Health System.

Physician Liaison representatives are available to:

Make a personal visit to your office to discuss new programs and clinical services
Address and resolve concerns with appointments, patient information and referral information
Provide information to physicians about UAB Clinical Trials and healthcare services
Assist in the development of CME programs in the community
Arrange speaking engagements and meetings between UAB physicians, administration and referring physicians

Office hours Monday - Friday, 8 AM. - 5 PM .

MIST

MIST provides any physician in the nation toll-free access to UAB Health System faculty and staff, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Please feel free to use MIST to:

Obtain an immediate medical consultation
Schedule a referral
Request a transfer
Arrange for Critical Care Transport
Check on patients referred to UAB
Consult with UAB Physicians about follow-up care for patients who have returned home
Discuss diagnoses, new technology, clinical trials, and research findings

HealthFinder

Healthfinder program, which includes Cancer Answers and The UAB Callahan Eye Foundation Hospital Referral Line is a health information, referral and appointment scheduling service for the general public and health-care professionals.

HealthFinder nurses are available Monday-Friday 8am-5pm to:

Assist the general public and health-care professionals with scheduling physician appointments
Provide consumers with general health information
Provide consumers with information about UAB Clinical Trials
Provide consumers with information about UAB healthcare services, classes and seminars.
