UAB Hospital has an International Medical Service office which provides translation services to UAB Hospital patients that do not speak English. For in-patients a Cryacom phone can be set up at the patients' bedside so the treatment team can communicate to the patient in any language. UAB Hospital can also provide personal translation services for those patients that speak Spanish or Chinese. International Medical Services have contracts with the Sparks clinic, the Kirklin Clinic' and UAB Hospital. Any clinics in any of these facilities need to fax an interpreter request form to the International Medical Service office to request an interpreter*. If you have questions or need assistance contact Lee Sandal or Belkis Anderson in the International Medical Service Office at 205-934-2096, Fax 205-975-5940.
24-hour advanced notice on non-emergencies is recommended. For service after hours, holidays and weekends, page beeper number 5593 for the interpreter on call.
