Anupam Agarwal, MD, Named to UAB Andreoli Professorship

Anupam Agarwal, MD, has been appointed to the Thomas E. Andreoli Professorship in Nephrology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), in action taken today by the University of Alabama System Board of Trustees.

Agarwal joined UAB in 2003 and quickly rose to the rank of professor of medicine in the Division of Nephrology and was appointed director of the Nephrology Research and Training Center.

He is an internationally recognized expert on acute kidney injury and oxidant-mediated damage to the kidney and blood vessels. He earned a medical degree in India from Kasturba Medical College at Mangalore University, and completed his residency in internal medicine and nephrology at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research in Chandigarh, and completed fellowships a the University of Minnesota Hospitals and Clinic and the University of Florida. He began his professional academic career at Florida in 1996.

A prolific author of papers in scientific journals, he serves on the editorial board of the American Journal of Physiologyi and the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology.
