University Hospital has now admitted 31 patients affected by Hurricane Katrina, including 13 who were airlifted from New Orleans hospitals during the morning of Sept. 3 by the National Disaster Medical System. Five of the eight patients who were flown to Birmingham by the UAB Critical Care Transport Team Aug. 30-31 remain in the hospital. The rest of the patients arrived by private means.

Beginning this week, UAB medical residents and pharmacists are maintaining an on-site clinic in conjunction with the Red Cross to provide medical services at the BJCC for evacuees sheltering at that facility.
