John N. Whitaker Professor and Chair of the Department of Neurology, Ray L. Watts, MD, announces the appointment of Rotem Elgavish, MD, PhD, as assistant professor of neurology.
Dr. Elgavish joined the UAB Medical Scientist Training Program in 1994 and received a PhD in biomedical engineering in 2001 and an MD degree in 2003.
During a neurology residency at UAB, he won the 2005 and 2007 annual research awards. He is an alumnus of the J. Kiffin Penry Resident Program in Epilepsy.
Also at UAB, Dr. Elgavish completed a clinical neurophysiology fellowship, epilepsy track, and served as an associate scientist at the Civitan International Research Center.
In 2007 Dr. Elgavish received the UCB Young Investigator Award, the National EpiFellows Foundation Research Award, and was a Top Scholar Epilepsy Fellow.
Dr. Elgavish holds several copyrights and patents, including a physiological triggering device for high field magnetic resonance instrumentation and a screening questionnaire for diagnosis of epileptic and nonepileptic seizures.
Dr. Elgavish’s primary research interests involve neuroengineering applications in the diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy, specifically neurostimulation and neuroimaging.
