Located conveniently on the 6th floor of the North Pavilion of UAB Hospital, the Heart and Vascular Center is one of the largest in the Southeast encompassing 55,000 square feet of the newest technology available. It opened with 13 new labs housing the latest digital, flat plate technology which provides the best imaging and reduced radiation exposure, the equipment arranged to allow for streamlined use. The center is designed to allow for expansion of more suites in the future.

The center includes 48 beds for prep and recovery; 22 of these are private rooms for our outpatients to stay in with their families until discharge. There are 26 additional beds for patient care, all with the latest in electronic monitoring and documentation systems.

Cardiac Catheterization
Among other uses, Cardiac Catheterization may be performed to assess the coronary artieries, heart valves, and function of the heart muscle.

Obstructed arteries may be opened by purcutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty, also called angioplasty or PCTA.
